Thieves often skip the engine - they load the car onto a flatbed or tow it away. The device senses movement with the engine off and sends a critical alert as soon as it reports the movement - within seconds while it has a signal, or as soon as it reconnects if it does not.
Professional thieves use GPS/GSM jammers to blind a tracker. Ours records the jamming as an event - but it cannot send anything while it is being jammed, and no tracker can. The alert reaches you when the connection comes back, along with the gap the jammer left behind. So you learn it happened and roughly when, which is not the same as knowing during.
